WHERE ARE THE CHILDREN Heroes Be A Hero!
Creating Visionary Future Leaders, Community and Cultural Experiences for our Children
Where Are the Children -Heroes Foundation (WATCH) was founded in June 2009 and is firmly committed to promoting and procuring services which focused on the academic success of children in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex between the ages of 5 and 17 years.
Our objectives are as follows: · To provide area access to resources and free services by partnering with schools and local providers for children whose families could not otherwise afford services. · To educate this community by making parents, teachers, caregivers, and civic leaders aware of the implications of poor vision, obesity, health issues and other necessities, such as clothing and food that hinder social and emotional confidence. . To develop their reading skills and shape our youths through literacy programs needed for their emotional and physical well being in an attempt to eliminate any barriers to their learning and healthy childhood development. We developed these objectives from the following statistical facts: · 70% of juvenile delinquents have uncorrected vision problems. Harris, Paul - The Prevalence of Visual Conditions in a Population of Juvenile Delinquents Optometrist Extension Program · 53% of children of families living in poverty have uncorrected vision problems that interfere with reading, writing, and classroom learning. Gillespie, Kathleen - How Vision Impacts Literacy: An Educational Problem that Can Be Solved. Harvard School of Education, 2001 The need is obvious and we are committed to making a substantive difference in the education and quality of schools and families in this area.
